Then again, advocates state that without employments in sweatshops, there are just far more awful choices, for example, prostitution, wrongdoing, or even starvation. Are sweatshops and slave work worthy or even reasonable? In many manners, thinking about good decisions, the appropriate response would be a convincing no; in any case, it likewise relies upon the financial and social settings of people and nations, making it worthy here and there. Preventing the most unfortunate individuals from working in perilous situations as a reason for shielding them from low wages, dangerous conditions, and misuses are not a definitive answer for them; rather, they ought to be given better decisions and choices that would in the end permit them and their nation to remain on their own feet. With regards to the matter of slave work or sweatshops, it is hard to decide exactly what sweatshops really mean. The U.S. General Accounting Office characterizes a sweatshop as ââ¬Å"an business that disregards more than one government or state law administering the lowest pay permitted by law and extra time, youngster work, modern schoolwork, word related wellbeing and wellbeing, laborers remuneration, or industry regulation.â⬠However, it appears to be entirely nonsensical and ridiculous to apply this standard to individuals in poor nations, as they have a low expectation for everyday comforts and are frantically needing occupations to support their day by day vocation. Consequently, it is crucial to comprehend the idea of sweatshops from their perspective, to learn what they really need to endure, and what can for all intents and purposes advantage them in the long haul. Adversaries of sweatshops accept that purchasing items from sweatshops is unethical. The antiquated Greek savants discussed the issue of information and the significance of uncertainty. Plato portrayed information as legitimized genuine belief1 the catchphrase being conviction which in itself is dependent upon understandings by people. The acclaimed French scholar Renee Descartes attempted to characterize information as far as sureness and in his contentions the way to assurance starts with question. In his book Meditation 1 What can be called Doubt, he says I understood that it was fundamental, once over an incredible span, to destroy everything totally and start again directly from the establishments in the event that I needed to build up anything at all in the sciences that was steady and liable to last.2 So is there any fact in the Persian saying Doubt is the Key to Knowledge? Is this simply an epistemological talk or will it remain constant in subject matters as different as science and expressions? Nobel laureate and driving physicist, Richard Feynman depicted uncertainty according to science as follows: Scientific information is a group of articulations of shifting degrees of sureness - some generally uncertain, some almost sure, none sure beyond a shadow of a doubt. A solid equal can be drawn between his announcement and space inquire about. What made man land on the moon or investigate the chance of life on Mars? As a knower, I realize that on the off chance that we would not have questioned the likelihood that man could live on the moon, space endeavors to the moon would have halted after the close to life and demise show of Apollo 13. The Apollo3 arrangement of undertakings appeared to have built up that the moon was totally appalling a direct result of its failure to support water. The craving to know and questioning what was at that point known, prompted the Indian unmanned space campaign to the moon. The Indian space create Chandrayaan found hints of ice on the moons su rface. All in all, can man truly live on the moon? Science for the most part depends on a lot of deductive rationale to demonstrate their theory. Euclids two dimensional geometry is an exemplary instance of utilizing modus ponens or deductive rationale to demonstrate suppositions or theory. Passing by this, one could without much of a stretch contend as follows: Man needs oxygen and water to live. Water contains oxygen. Ice is framed from water. Ice has been found on the moon in this way, man can live on the moon. www.plato.stanford.edu/sections/information examination/à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¦ modus ponens xenodochy.org/article/popper.html www.rep.routeledge.com/article/DA026SECT4 www.space.com/8193-caused-apoll-13-accient.html Popper questioned this procedure of deductive adage and said it can't demonstrate a hypothesis genuine without fail. In his hypothesis of misrepresentation he contended that modus ponens is simply truth protecting and hence a superior option is modus tollens which utilizes the states of denying to distort the suspicion for example in the event that P infers Q and Q is bogus, at that point P should likewise be bogus. Poppers adulteration hypothesis brought up no logical hypothesis is ever decisively confirmed, regardless of what number of tests it has survived4 For instance, Schizophrenia has from the start been viewed as an interminable backsliding insane turmoil that principally influences thought and behaviour.5 An ongoing report by the University College of London has built up by methods for a trial that at times, the impression of schizophrenic individuals is more exact than those without schizophrenia. Along these lines an uncertainty is made whether schizophrenia is actually a crazy condition or are there different measurements to it. Passing by the contention that deductive information doesnt consistently hold great, I can securely infer that we don't have sufficient data to presume that man can live on the moon and in this manner more inquiries should be posed. Then again questioning each logical truth prompting pointless research and data over-burden could prompt a circumstance of complete loss of motion in our ordinary everyday life. For instance, if we somehow managed to question that oxygen is a nurturing substance, at that point it could prompt basic circumstances in health related crises. Essentially while managing society everywhere and companions and family members specifically, if we somehow happened to question everything to look for more information, we are well on the way to wind up with almost no information and much less companions! People groups feelings, aims and their social characteristics like trustworthiness, uprightness, truthfulness and so forth ought not be questioned. There will be uncommon situations where individuals might need to hoodwink, yet that without anyone else can't prompt an uncertainty about individuals when all is said in done. _____________________ science.martinsewell.com/falsification.html priory.com/schizo.htm. Shakespeare said If music be the food of adoration, play on6.Wonderful as it sounds and most likely not contended excessively, yet individuals have investigated the impact that music has on plants. There is one way of thinking that accepts and claims to have exact information to demonstrate that plants react well to stationary old style and comparable sort of music yet they shrivel affected by hard rock and comparable music. Drawing a corresponding with human life they contend that hard rock, metal and so on is really impeding for human development and along these lines ought to be restricted. Customary botanists anyway contend that the alleged exact information dependent on examine is simply fortuitous and there is no relationship among's music and development of plants. They resort to another arrangement of proof which shows that development of plants is identified with various elements that are not identified with music, for example, state of soil, temp, dampness content and so on. On a third measurement, music itself has various kinds appreciated by various individuals. In this way is music likewise dependent upon observation or is it supreme? Does it truly affect plant inconveniently or something else? On the off chance that we question the premise of the cases and counterclaims and seek after with examination from all points, at that point, information will advance and realities can be set up. Science in any case, craftsmanship is sufficiently unique to make its own arrangement of discussions which ordinarily centers around the preferences of the perceiver. This leads me to ponder, on the off chance that craftsmanship and style are equal, at that point to what degree is excellence a vital element for something to be viewed as workmanship? Platos hypothesis of structures asserted that It is by magnificence that lovely things are delightful. Immanuel Kant, an eighteenth century German savant then again guaranteed that tasteful experience doesn't involve comprehension or reason, (and thus false information), however involves judgment [Critique of Judgment].7 Taking this contention further, the canvas by Eduord Manet8, Luncheon on the Grass, was fervently discussed when it was first displayed in 1863. Above all else it was not seen as a workmanship, however as an attack against society. The work of art, delineating an exposed lady sitting in the midst of two completely clad men, the entirety of whose pictures were contemporary and practically recognizable as one among the watchers, earned the painter the fury of the scrutinizes and masses. However a previous composition by Thomas Coutre in 18479, Romans in The Decadence of the Empire delineated a scene with Romans lying about with numerous bare ladies in different stances of sexiness. It appears to me, that a naked in traditional settings, for example, the old Greek or Roman realms was viewed as adequate however a naked in contemporary setting was most certainly not. In any case, the artwork, referred to for its contention today hangs as a perfect work of art in the Musee D Oray in Paris. 6. www.enotes.com/shaespeare-cites/music-food-love-play 7 www.creatorix.com.au/reasoning/t03/g010.html 8 http://blog.photos2view.com/2008/05/27/workmanship and-controversy.htm 9 http://www.essentialart.com/acatalog/Edouard_Manet_prints_Luncheon_on_the_Grass.html As an understudy of visual expressions in IB, I was informed that there are three fundamental hues red, yellow and blue. While utilizing the PC, trangely I found that the essential hues were red, green and blue, in any case called the RGB design. All in all, what are the essential hues? The appropriate response lay in the various mediums where they are utilized. Red, yellow and blue are essential hues which are utilized in while blending colors to accomplish different shades and hues on an artistic creation canvas. Red, green and blue are utilized where there are covering shades to be utilized while anticipating on screens, for example, in LCD boards or screens for PC screen. My uncertainty about the fundamental hues drove me to look for extra data. The way to information around there of workmanship was figuring out how to blend essential colors in painting and this learning has been both test and experiential. Taking the Platonist see that information is advocated genuine conviction, I can now sensibly profess to have information that red and yellow whenever blended in equivalent extents would give the shading orange or shades of orange. Regardless of whether the subject matter is science or expressions, questions and questions remain. Some replied with a sensible measure of legitimization which focuses to a plausible authoritative answer dependent on data accessible by then and others stay uncertain prompting further questions. Thusly the inquiry is information total or is it endless? We can never realize except if we question all information driving us to look for increasingly more data. The drawback do we question everything throughout everyday life or should we acknowledge a few occasions as experimental real factors. The appropriate response? It is situational. Toward the end, as a knower, when I take a gander at the word question I can securely say that the Persian saying Doubt is the Key to Knowledge isn't only an epistemological talk; it is for sure a way to acquire information. In the expressions of H L Mencken a compelling essayist and pundit of the twentieth century, Men become acculturated, not in relation to their eagerness to accept, yet with respect to their preparation to doubt.9 ___________________________ www.leopoldsegedin.com/essay_deta Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12749844878468553461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897395022590069002.post-36308991353317016322020-08-19T15:25:00.001-07:002020-08-19T15:25:03.411-07:00File Reading, Part I - UGA Undergraduate AdmissionsFile Reading, Part I - UGA Undergraduate Admissions File Reading, Part I Last week, I said I would write about file reading, and I will break it up into six areas. The first thing we generally see during the review of the files is how a student spends their time outside of the classroom. As such, lets talk a little bit about how we look at an applicants commitment to activities, service, family and/or leadership areas. Remember, this is one of six areas I will talk about, so dont get too focused or hung up on just this area. The first thing you should know is that we value quality over quantity. What we are looking for is somewhat about the range of what a person does, but more so the depth of their involvement. I see far too many applicants get involved with multiple clubs or organizations in their junior year after the light comes on (or the parents voice starts to be heard) about being involved. Suddenly a student is involved in 7 different groups, from the Green Campus club to the knitting for kids group. Anything and everything gets thrown in. What we are really looking at is what things you have committed to during your high school years, both in time and in consistency. I am much more impressed with a student who does three things, lets say scouting, cross-country and Habitat for Humanity, growing in ability and responsibility each year, than a student who bounces from group to group, having ten areas of involvement, but not staying with any one of them. This isnt to say that we dont look at times where a student gets involved in a range of activities to find their niche, but we do focus on dedication and commitment. Another thing to look at is that I listed family and service. Two years ago, I read a file where the applicant worked 35-40 hours a week (supervising 15 people!), and was the main bread-winner for a family of four. He was not working simply to afford movie tickets or gas money, but to put food on the table and keep the electricity on in the house. While he had limited involvement in clubs, he was dedicated to his family and his job. It comes down to looking at a student in context within his/her situation, and what is available or expected within their situation. We suggest that you look at your time spent outside of the classroom and let us know what you are passionate about and active in. Dont think that just because it is not a school club, that you should not list it. If you play the violin, are active in missions with a community group, have the lead in a community theater production, etc, tell us about it. The worst thing you can do is leave a section blank just because you dont think we would want to know about X. We will then look at what activities you have chosen to participate in over the last 4+ years, what leadership roles you have taken on, and what type of time commitment you have put into these areas. So go find the activity you are passionate about, have a great day, and Go Dawgs! United States is a federal republic country. The government consists of a federal power led by the president. There are state governments to assist in the decision makings by the federal government. United States federal government is divided into three different branches. The constitution allows a separation of power among the government. Legislative branch creates laws. They also have the ability to declare war on other countries. Inside the branch, the Senate, the House of Representatives, or the congress, and other agencies, are elected by the citizens. There are 100 senators and 435 representatives. In Georgia, the two Senators are Johnny Isakson and David Perdue. Someâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Judicial branch interprets the laws and uses the interpretations to decide whether certain cases or events fail to follow the constitution or not. The Supreme Court is the head court that consists of justices chosen by the president and approved by the senate. The number of justices is decided by the senate. As of now, there are nine justices. The current Chief Justice is John G. Roberts, Jr. Other federal courts are also part of the Judicial Branch. Through checks and balances, the three branches maintain equal amounts of power. For instance, the executive branch confirms on the law propositions that the legislative branch makes, and then the judicial branch makes sure that law is constitutional. Power is also given to state governments. Individual states also follow the three branch system. In Georgia, the executive branch is led by a governor; currently, Nathan Deal is the governor of Georgia. The legislative branch is bicameral, meaning that the legislature consists of two chambers different responsibilities. The legislature is made up of the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Georgia judicial branch is headed by the state supreme court. Hugh P. Thompson is the chief justice. There are two basic community corrections models in the United States. In the first model, integrated community corrections programs combine sentencing guidelines and judicial discretion (front-end) with a variety of alternative sanctions and parole and probation options. In the second model, some states have instituted programs in which correctional officials may direct already sentenced offenders into alternative sanction programs and parole and probation options (back-end). Both models are designed to help reduce prison overcrowding and are less expensive alternatives to prison. Widespread development of community correction programs in theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Parole: A form of conditional release available to offenders who are incarcerated. It is similar to probation but the offender is in the community while still serving some of the prison sentence. When people come into contact with the criminal justice system, they pass through several stages of processing. At each stage, an individual s risk of re-offending is assessed by criminal justice workers. Risk assessments are performed by justice professionals on a daily basis: pre-trial, before sentencing, when determining security level in custody, prior to release, and after breaches or critical incidents occur (Hart, 1995). These assessments can be either formal or informal in nature (Milner amp; Campbell, 1995). Risk assessment is fundamental to the criminal justice process because it is a means for distinguishing between offenders who are likely to re-offend and those who are at a lower risk for recidivism (Solicitor General Canada, 1998a). There has been a lot of controversy about the accuracy of risk assessments. Risk assessments are essentially predictions of future behaviour and are subject to error. The result of a risk assessment has serious implications for both the assessed individual and society: for the individual offender, the assessment will decide his or her freedom; for society, it may determine whether a potentially dangerous person will be released into the community. They differ, though, on Robespierres idea that terror is virtue and the destruction caused by the French Revolution. As a Romantic poet, Coleridge focuses on the common person and natural aspects of the world. Coleridge agrees with the original intent of the French Revolution which fights for the common person. He feels that liberty is something that all humans should have regardless of their social class or lineage. Coleridge compares liberty to the solemn music of the wind. Comparing freedom to solemn music he shows that ones liberty s a serious matter that if addressed correctly would enhance the enjoyment of life, like music. By associating freedom with wind, Coleridge implies that freedom is universal because wind travels everywhere. These ideas tie in with the Romantic views that all people should have the right to strive for happiness. These views are again illustrated when Coleridge writes, Thou rising Sun! thou blue rejoicing Sky. (Coleridge, 102) By comparing liberty to the sun and the sky, Coleridge states that the idea of liberty is a natural right. It is not something that should have to be ought for, but something that all people should inherently possess. By also comparing liberty to the rising sun implies that the rise of a democratic government will happen soon and that when uncovered, it will be a very good thing for the whole world. Romantic poetry often referred to the natural aspects of the world as Romantic poetry strived to bring together nature and man. Coleridge illustrates his optimism about where the French Revolution could lead and the ideas it could bring to the world. When Robespierre took control of the French Revolution he immediately began to ssert his ideas of natural equality on France. In Robespierres Republic of Virtue, he states that his goal involves the well-being of everyone, the peaceful enjoyment of liberty and equality; the reign of that eternal Justice whose laws are engraved not on wanted to create a state where people do not have to fight for there liberties. The metaphor in this passage laws are engraved not on marble or stone but in the hearts of all men shows Robespierres belief in unbendable laws that apply to everyone. By saying that laws are engraved he means that these laws must stick with is citizens at all times and in the hearts of all men confirm his belief in natural laws that all are born with. Robespierre only wants people who are willing to give for the greater good. Robespierre also says, We wish, in a word, to fulfill the intentions of nature and the destiny of humanity, realize the promises of philosophy, and acquit providence of the long reign of crime and tyranny. (Perry,114) In this passage, Robespierre claims that nature intends for humankind to use the ideas of philosophy, reason and logic, and remove the monarchial constraints that have been laced upon them. Robespierre argues that humans have the right to govern themselves instead of God and kings. Robespierres believes the ideal government must be a republic or democracy as those are the only formats that allow for universal happiness. Like many leaders before him who ultimately failed, Robespierre, in the traditional Enlightenment theory, sought to use reason and logic to build a perfect society, a utopia. Coleridge supported the idea of the Revolution, but as the Revolution turned violent he began to criticize the Jacobins for the approach they took to achieve their oals. Coleridge shows this when he says, Forgive me, Freedom! O forgive those dreams! I hear thy voice, I hear thy loud lament. (Coleridge, 103) Coleridge states in this passage that he feels humbled by believing that the French Revolution could actually change anything. By saying that he hears thy loud lament he shows his emotions of sadness that Robespierre could bring freedom and that he still feels he has a duty to bring freedom to all people. Coleridge disapproves of the disregard for human life, l hear thy groans upon her blood-stained streams. (Coleridge, 103) Coleridge, in this passage, illustrates the level of violence in France by saying that Robespierre killed so many people that blood replaced the water in the streams. The imagery used depicts more violence than anyone could imagine. With this new regime, the Reign of Terror, Coleridge feels that the French created a mockery of true liberty. O France, that mockest Heaven, adulterous, blind, And patriot only in pernicious toils! (Coleridge, 104) This passage shows that the Revolution did not unify France like it should. The citizens only act patriotic towards their country when cting in a violent manner. Robespierre sought to create a utopia, but the revolution destroyed the values of freedom and equal liberty that heaven, a utopia, is based on. Rather than help the common people, Robespierre became power-hungry and turned into what they originally fought, Are these thy boasts, Champion of human kind? To mix with Kings in the low lust of sway. (Coleridge, 104) Robespierre, believing they knew the best way to reform France took too much power and attempted to mold France to their liking, but destroying the freedom they wanted to create. By using reason, Robespierre came to believe that terror could help to achieve the goals of the Revolution in the quickest manner possible. Robespierre knew that a government promoting the liberty and freedom of the common person was morally tyranny. Referring to the Revolution as a war alludes to the destructive nature that the Revolution took under the guidance of Robespierre. Robespierres Republic of Virtues modeled what a good citizen should do. Since virtue (good citizenship) and equality are the soul of the republic, and your aim is to found and to consolidate he republic, it follows that the first rule of your political conduct must be to relate all of your measures to the maintenance of equality and to the development of virtue; for the first care of the legislator must be to strengthen the principles on which the government rests. (Perry, 115) This passage shows how Robespierre attempts to take complete control of France. He says that citizens must give up rights, not gain rights, to help the government, which Robespierre controls completely. Logically this made sense as he believed that the government attempted to create was the best and herefore he needed to have all the power to do so. To him using terror to enforce his laws, which to him were absolutely necessary, seemed perfectly reasonable as it would only affect his enemies, not his followers. If the driving force of popular government in peacetime is virtue, that of Popular government during a revolution is both virtue and terror: virtue, without which terror is destructive; terror, without which virtue is impotent. Terror is only Justice that is prompt, severe, and inflexible; it is thus an emanation of virtue. (Perry, 115) Robespierre in this passage explains how is destructive actions logically make sense. According to him terror emanates virtue as terror acts as a mean to enforce virtue, therefore someone already virtuous will not be affected. Logically this made sense, but realistically his actions tore apart France as the destruction he caused overwhelmed any good that his Reign of Terror brought. Robespierre consistently shows a willingness to fght his own country believing that to stop a civil war he would have to kill everyone against him, even though these sorts of actions started the civil war. How can civil war be ended? By unishing traitors and conspirators, particularly if they are deputies or administrators; by sending loyal troops under patriotic leaders to subdue the aristocrats of Lyon, Marseille, Toulon, the Vendà ©e, the Jura, and all other regions in which the standards of rebellion and royalism have been raised: and by making frightful examples of all scoundrels who have outrage liberty and spilled the blood of patriots. Perry, 1 1 5) Robespierre used logic and reason constantly to work towards his goal of creating a utopia, but he overlooked the consequences that France would face if he followed through. The contrast between these two artifacts illustrates the debate between the Romanticism and Enlightenment theories. The Enlightenment, represented by Robespi erre, uses logic and reason to achieve a certain goal, whereas Romanticism reacted against that theory, believing the world to be more than Just reason and logic. The Romantic outlook focuses more on life and enjoying where you are since you might not be there again, while the Enlightenment concentrates on working towards a goal. The Enlightenment theory led to violence as it logically it made sense, but from an Enlightenment, perspective the extreme amount of violence became nnecessary and Romantic thinkers criticized the French Revolution and Robespierre for that. Robespierre became to focused on perfecting society that he did not take notice to the destruction that he caused. It might demand an independent state within a confederation of states, or might insist on an independent political entity within a new federal structure. Social and economic development were key factors for two seemingly antagonistic phenomena: on the one hand, there was the strengthening of the state power, and on the other hand, once World War I came to an end, the international system was faced with new actors exercising power of decision-making; the globalisation of political, economic, social and cultural relations gave rise to international actors, multinational companies, international organizations (the League of Nations, and then, the United Nations), integrating organisation (process which automatically implies a delegation of sovereignty to a higher level); among non-state actors, especially after 9/11 one can also mention terrorist organisations and "the new form of trans-national terrorism which is far more complex and difficult to monitor, analyse, and combat ()some claim that this 'new' terrorism is displacing the older forms of terrorism and has now become the major threat" (Wilkinson, 2001). This multiplication is regarded, by some analysts as being a shift in orientation from the "nation state" as the dominant actor on the international scene towards other types of actors; the motivation for such claims resides in the apparent loss of substance which the state has suffered, especially from the perspective of the integrationist process; furthermore, the arguments consider that this diminution in sovereignty is transferred to the other actors, in such a way as to legitimize their position on the international scene. Thus, the position of the state as a principal actor represents one of the most controversial aspects of IR theory. On order to present the debates surrounding the issue, the arguments and its opponents, it is important to first analyse the realist perspective on the concept of "state" and the arguments supporting its central role in the international structure of the XXI century. Seen from the perspective of the international relations, the political realism considers that if the behaviour of the states, as it had been shown up until then, cannot be reformed, it can at least be controlled. The realist tradition can be traced back to Thucydides and Hobbes, although it rose to great heights as the dominant paradigm in American policymaking during the Cold War (Roggeveen, 2001).Even so, the first valuable theory writings belong to XX st century. The classic realist theorists start their argumentation from the clear premises stated by Morgenthau who acknowledges "the nation state as the ultimate point of reference of contemporary foreign policy" (Morgenthau, 1978); moreover, as one of the leading theoreticians of realism, Morgenthau pointed out a second principle that defined the goals of politics "The main signpost that helps political realism to find its way through the landscape of international politics is the concept of interest defined in terms of power". When correlating the two ideas, the conclusion is that the nation state regards the practice of foreign policy as a means to Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12749844878468553461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897395022590069002.post-66832107737565748072020-02-04T20:05:00.001-08:002020-02-04T20:05:02.937-08:00Network Security Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2Network Security - Essay Example In order to prevent such attacks in the future the following measures should be thoroughly applied. Security monitoring technologies should be used to monitor changes in user privileges and also add manual approvals to critical infrastructure and software (Minimizing the impact of the RSA SecurID breach, 2011). Also the infrastructure hosting critical software should be hardened and they should be monitored closely for remote and physical access. ETHICAL PRINCIPLES NOT MET: Respect for Human dignity Informed Consent Privacy Respect for Vulnerable persons Minimizing harm and maximizing benefit The persons involved in these experiments, were Human beings. Their privacy was invaded by these Nazi doctors. There was coercion ââ¬â they did not have a say in terms of what was being done to them. Having battlefield wounds being inflicted, was not a voluntary decision by these people. Since the doctors in Nazi Germany were guided by utilitarian moral principles, they did not need to consider informed consent. Experiments were conducted with no considerations for the wellbeing of the subject from the possibilities of injury, disability, or death. In these experiments the subjects experienced extreme pain, resulting in permanent injury, mutilation, or death. Respect for these subjects in the eyes of the Nazis was not a priority, as they were seen to be ââ¬Å"Less-Human.â⬠These people were vulnerable to the Nazis, and to whatever was being done to them. Minimizing harm was not a consideration that was taken by the nazi medics. However, even though it was for the Germans be nefit, it was torture for the Jewish and Non-German people. There is no way in which this experiment can be reconstructed to become an ethical process. However, since it was geared towards finding cures for those wounded in battle, what can be a possible suggestion is that, instead of using those innocent people and inflicting battle wounds, the wounded casualties should have been used instead, with consent ofcourse, to find those possible remedies for infections. Another senario, would have been to take blood samples of infected persons, again with consent, and test with appropriate apparatus/equipments to find cures. Tuskegee Syphilis Study- Learning more about syphillis and its treatment, especially for blacks in the U.S. This study had good intentions. However, it shifted from helping persons with the disease to becoming a study about the effects of untreated Syphilis on live patients. At the time, the ââ¬Å"coulouredsâ⬠had no access to medical care. This study was more or less based on Deception. ETHICAL PRINCIPLES NOT MET: Respect for Human Dignity Informed Consent Respect for vulnerable persons minimizing harm and maximizing benefit Independence of research and conflicts of interest or partiality must be explicit. The participants in this study were not informed that they were more or less test subjects, and the doctors were more interested in the results of their autopsies. It is more accurate to say however that they were informed, but rather misinformed, and not notified that the disease they were being treated for was indeed serious and possibly fatal. ââ¬Å"The duration of the experiment was so long that the study violated two laws that were passed since its beginning. The Henderson Act of 1943, which requires the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, and the World Health Organizations (W.H.O.) Declaration of Helsinki of 1964, which requires professionals to provide informed consent on all medical experiments that researched effects on people (Brunner, 2009). Despite the passing of these laws the doctors involved in the study not only withheld information from these men, but also deliberately misinformed them and prevented them from seeking alternative methods of effective treatment.â⬠(Amaris Joy, 2011) How can this process be revised, so as to become more ethical? Participants need to be informed and not mislead about the study. Researchers should not maximize harm to obtain maximum benefit The rights of Human beings/dignity should be of a high priority Research should be made explicit Blood samples should have been taken, with consent and with the person being throughly informed, and then be analysed for a cure, thereby not using the individual and having him/her prone to any harm. Since penicilin was used to counter the disease, it should have been enforced. The government should have been aware that the study was going on after they found the penicilin cure and should have shut down the study. They should have been more aware of what was going on. The Willowbrook Study ETHICAL PRINCIPLES NOT MET: Respect for Vulnerable persons Respect for Human dignity Witholding information about risks Coercion or undue pressure on parents to volunteer their children. Willowbrook State School, located in Staten Island, is a school for retarded children, which in 1956, agreed to participate in a research experiment to determine the course of the hepatitis virus and whether or not gamma globulin (a protein complex which contains antigens to provoke the body to produce antibodies) could be used to inoculate children against the virus. How can this process be revised, so as to become more ethical? A series of Blood samples of those infected or who have now enrolled to the school, could have been taken with parents informed consent at different phases, and analysed with the various methods to find the cure. Children should not be taken for experimentation without their consent or parents consent children should not have been used as test subjects at all. Laud Humphrey, 1960s, Washington University (PhD diss) Tearoom Sex Study The study planned first to obtain information about homosexual practices in public restrooms and then to conduct further investigation on the men who took part in the acts. The researcher went undercover and gained the confidence of the men by acting as a look out. The researcher identified 100 active subjects by tracing their car license numbers. A year after he completed the initial study of direct observation of homosexual acts the researcher distributed a social health survey throughout the communities where he knew the subjects lived. ETHICAL PRINCIPLES NOT MET: Respect for privacy and confidentiality Respect for vulnerable persons Ensuring research was conducted in the best interest of society Respect for free and informed consent How can this process be revised, so as to become more ethical? What Laud Humphrey should have done, was not to pry on peoples privacy, but interview those who were willing to go along with his study, who found themselves in that category. Questionaires/Surveys done with confidentiality could have been done instead, being distributed to various communities. Section 2-Report THE UNIVERSITY OF RED BRICKS WARRENVILLE CAMPUS Research Ethics Board March 11, 2014 Dr. Researcha, University of Red Bricks, Warrenville Campus. Re: Approval report on the research proposal requested by Dr. Geographia. Dear Dr. Researcha, As an external reviewer of Dr. Geographias study of community vulnerability to natural disasters, I have approved the complete protocol, ââ¬Å"Strategies of the richest and most famous: Minimizing vulnerability to Earthquakes and other Natural Disasters in Trinidad and Tobago.â⬠The Project is scheduled to last twenty-four months, which includes the areas of Warrenville and surroundings, commencing on May 5, 2014. Dr. Geographia, is very experienced in this area of study, has published in peer reviewed journals, and has many books published in the subject area of natural hazards and risk perceptions. The protocol involves no special populations in particular, thereby reducing the ethical principle of subject vulnerability. The pupose of the proposed research is limited only to the social elite, being approximately five percent and not to socio-economically disadvantaged groups. According to the proposal read, this study seeks to disclose the resources, networks, and strategies of the countrys wealthiest and apply the results gained to formulate a ââ¬Å"trickle-downâ⬠mobilization stategy. In emulating societys elite, this can strengthen the socially disadvantaged in coping with natural hazards. The study incorporates views and community perceptions.Quantitative methods such as blood sampling, laboratory usage, and other sampling experiments and analysis will not be performed. The study is a Qualitative study. Research material will be obtained through semi-structured interview via researchers within the residents homes, taped and transcibed, completed in the participants homes for their comfort, in keeping with ensuring research is conducted in the best interest of the society as a whole. The ethical principle of Privacy and confidentiality will therefore not be compromised as the study demands the highest discretions due to the wealth status of the individuals participating. Respect for free and informed consent, will be adhered, since once the participant decides to take part, their verbal consent will be recorded, and therefore a consent form will not be necessary. Data will be collated and analyzed in order to formulate applications to prevent loss and vulnerability among the poorest in the Region. Her study in no way violates any other ethical principles such as respect for human dignity, confidentiality, justice, and respect for minimizing harm and maximising benefit. No harm is done to the participants in the study. It has minimal to no risks involved. Benefits are obtained, when results are obtained and analyzed accordingly. The proposal is a more or less cost effective study. Whatever expences are required, are thereby funded by Right Hand Left Hand Insurance Group. A suggestion that I would recommend, is that Dr. Geographia should incorporate in her study, the views and opinions of the Poor. The study should be revised to incorporate the poor, although the main focus is on the social elite. The perspectives of the socio-economically disadvantage will add leverage to her study, and a deeper understanding of their own responces to natural hazards can be contrasted and compared to that of the social elite. Therefore, one must examine the language of the text again keeping in mind when it was written. America gained its reputation from undergoing several wars and social discrepancies. It is very ironic though that America can be seen as the land of the free when the early citizens of the country thrived off the enslavement of an entire race of people. One major war that questioned the idea of freedom and enslavement, was the civil war. This war took place during the 19th century and was a fight over different moral beliefs between the northern states and the southern states. When Abraham Lincoln was elected president, seven southern states decided to secede from the unionâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Based off this definition of liberty, it is weird to think that Americans would believe in the enslavement and oppression of a group of people simply because they were a different race. Slavery in America has been justified by using a different definition of liberty. In early American history, John Locke believed that ââ¬Å"all mankindâ⬠¦being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.â⬠Americans who believed in slavery followed Lockeââ¬â¢s definition of liberty and claimed africans as property instead of human beings. The views of the south played a major role in shaping the lives of black people living in America. The economic enrichment that slavery brought to many southern states goes back to the early 17th century; when the first slaves arrived in the colony of Jamestown, Virginia. Initially slavery was just to help push the southern economy forward. Though the mistreatment of the slaves started to become more popular and the longer slavery stayed prominent, the less humane they became in the eyes of the white southerners. When the question of equal rights for all came into play, the south decided to follow John Lockeââ¬â¢s words: ââ¬Å"all mankindâ⬠¦being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty or possessions.â⬠Thus slave owners defined their slaves as property instead of people. Hegel thought that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦what is most real- the Absolute- is thought thinking of itself.â⬠(Moore-Bruder, 2005 P. 143) He also thought that it was not an independent group of ideas, but that all the ideas were interconnected. He would propose a thesis, then an antithesis, and together they would form the synthesis. Meaning the thesis and antithesis were the foundation for the synthesis, which would become a new thesis and antithesis forming a new synthesis until the synthesis reached the apex. Hegel thought the highest triad was the ââ¬Å"synthesis of ââ¬ËIdeaââ¬â¢ and ââ¬ËNatureââ¬â¢ in ââ¬ËSpiritââ¬â¢.â⬠(Moore-Bruder, 2005 P. 145) Idea meaning self conscious thought, Nature meaning the external expression of Idea, and Spirit meaning thought recognizing itself as both thought and as object. Sà ¸ren Kierkegaard, the first major existential philosopher, disagreed with Hegel. He thought that individuals and their will and needs impacted their decision-making process. He thought despair was the result of an individual having to make ethical and religious choices alone, and that the only relief one could be granted was that from a belief and trust in a higher power or God even if it went against the universal norms. Friedrich Nietzsche also disagreed with Hegelââ¬â¢s idealism and all similar rationales. He thought man, as a whole, was irrational and would do what they were told, without question, like a herd of animals. He thought the rare Superman was able to overcome the slave mentality and have thoughts of his own. The Superman was able to create his own values rather than looking toward God as their source of values. The existential movement was not only embraced by philosophers but by artists and writers as well. Albert Camus believed that many people lived their entire life in a sort of haze. Our two basic needs, the need for clarity and the need for social warmth and contact, usually go unmet because we go about our lives fulfilling what we perceive as important needs instead of what actually are. Jean-Paul Sartre believed that there was no God, and that thought had four basic philosophical implications. He believed that you are what you make of yourself, that there is no reason for existing, that our choices are made of our own free will, and that we all establish our own values. He believed that by making choices about oneââ¬â¢s life and future we give meaning to our lives and that how we act is a true vision into what kind of person you are. Edmund Husserlââ¬â¢s work is the starting point for what is now known as phenomenology. Phenomenology states that one should look at the objects that are actually present and not concern oneself with the second world that metaphysics presents such as Platoââ¬â¢s forms. Martin Heidegger thought that humans had forgotten about Being, the ultimate source, because of human made logic. He believed that ââ¬Å"â⬠¦it is both arrogant and destructive to assume that humans are the masters of nature or to follow Protagorasââ¬â¢s dictum that man is the measure of all things.â⬠(Moore-Bruder, 2005 P. 175) He thought that speech was a useless flood of words without any true meaning. Emmanuel Levinas believed that humans could not study Being and try to explain beings, he thought beings had to study themselves first in order to explain Being. He thought that oneââ¬â¢s primary responsibility is for the Other and it is more important than their responsibility to themselves and to the world. He thought that true freedom is only attained by obedience to God and His commandments. The historical development of Continental philosophyââ¬â¢s existentialism and phenomenology as a response to Hegelian idealism has basically been on of disagreement. Philosophers seem to disagree with most of Hegelââ¬â¢s ideas. There is also some disagreement among the existentialists and phenomenolists both within their own categories and between the two. Most of Continental philosophyââ¬â¢s ideas are based on ideas that were previously stated. References Moore-Bruder: Philosophy: The Power of Ideas (6th ed.). In addition to the topics listed below, associative writing, the writing of thoughts as fast as they come to mind without worrying about sentence structure or punctuation, may be particularly helpful when a student is troubled or experiencing writers block. The technique may be particularly helpful when a student is troubled or suffering from writers block. Although I like to teach students how and when to use associative writing, I prefer that they do it outside of class and not as an English assignment. This is because humans are the grantors of animalsââ¬â¢ rights, where they choose on what they feed, their medication, and even caring for their needs. In the case of livestock, humans determine what they feed and choose mates for the animals for purposes of robust breeds. Animal rights are perceived to be acquired by virtue of birth. The rules of nature, however, do not give animals the sense of granting other animals their rights. The complex structures relating to equality, put in place by humans does not resemble any structures relating to animal rights. This proves that animals are not able to honor the necessary basic contract for the existence of their rights. Animals have quite an impact on the lives of human beings. Despite the sympathy and care that humans show to animals, the animals have rights that are enforceable by law. Although the animals cannot comprehend the laws, they may be disastrous for the humans. The welfare of animals should be put into consideration to ensure that the quality of life is achieved by both humans and Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12749844878468553461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897395022590069002.post-16284242589435670502019-11-19T20:18:00.001-08:002019-11-19T20:18:02.926-08:00An Issue Pertaining to Business Ethics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1An Issue Pertaining to Business Ethics - Essay Example Recent reports have shown that over 10 million men and women in England drink above the recommended guidelines. This obviously means that it will in all possible ways affect their body and mind in a negative way. The guidelines set to drinking have been set by the careful and thorough study of the intake of alcohol and those set limits are not meant to be crossed. These individuals in their practical life, therefore, perform lesser than their capability. It affects their performance, behavior, mental and stress level. They get tired easily and therefore are unable to work for even average work hours. It also causes a greater rate of absenteeism amongst individuals and a company cannot properly function with these conditions. Absent employees and the ones present not working at their best is something an organization should worry about. ââ¬Å"By the principle of utility is meant that principle which approves or disapproves of every action whatsoever according to the tendency it appears to have to augment or diminish the happiness of the party whose interest is in questionâ⬠(Bentham, 1789). An individualââ¬â¢s actions inside the organization that he is working in, that directly affect the organization need to be paid attention and controlled. Itââ¬â¢s for the benefit of everyone that every particular individual behaves in the most appropriate of ways, ways that are ethical. The health profession, in particular, primary care physicians, has long been encouraged to guide their patientsââ¬â¢ drinking behavior (ICAP, 2002). Alcoholic behaviors of individuals is an important issue and require urgent attention, reports suggest that around 200,000 people go to work with a hangover. Alcohol also directly affects individuals work behavior. It is reported to promote rude behavior, non-serious attitude and in some cases violent behavior as well.à à Mikehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12749844878468553461noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897395022590069002.post-26317343655490025442019-11-17T08:49:00.001-08:002019-11-17T08:49:03.600-08:00How to Write a Great Statement of Purpose Essay Example for Free How to Write a Great Statement of Purpose Essay Statement of Purpose Growing up in an educated family was a great motivation to find my position in life and establish my own dreams. During my high school education, I started searching for undergraduate programs that matched my personality and interests. After a long journey of searching, I decided to study a major that focuses mainly on health science in order to help people to stay safe and healthy. When I imaged how a small pill can switch peopleââ¬â¢s lives from hell to heaven, it motivated me to learn more about scientific processes to facilitate these transformations. Once I received my Pharm-D degree from Taif University, I determined to obtain a Masterââ¬â¢s degree in the U.S in Pharmacoeconomics, Health Care Outcomes and Clinical Services. I discovered my specific academic passion when I was a senior pharmacy student, during my hospital rotations besides my graduation project. I worked with Professor Abubaker, who is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice division at Taif University, on a project titled ââ¬Å"Self-Medication with Antibiotics: A population-based survey in Taif, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.â⬠This project had a great effect on my desire to continue studying pharmacy in graduate school because it showed me that many patients have low awareness of the effects of using wrong or unspecified dose of medication, especially in antibiotics due to either low awareness or social impacts. This matched my experience in five rotations of hospitals and college training as a senior pharmacy student. One of the important rotations to me was when I worked with physicians in a walk-in Ambulatory clinic. I interacted face to face with the patients and observed their treatment plans to raise awareness or make changes . In addition to my internship, I participated in many events during my college years. One of the important participation to me was when I participated in DUPHAT Conference 2015 in Dubai as a conference delegate and student poster presenter of a group graduation project. The concepts of hard work and the commitment to what I am doing and aiming for were reinforced in me by these extracurricular activities. I chose to apply to your program because it offers a highly unique Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice program. This program hits two birds with one stone for me. It focuses academically on providing the knowledge and analytical skills, which are necessary to demonstrate the pharmaceutical and healthcare products, to help to improve the health system in order to provide more accurate treatments for patients as well as to reduce health care cost and use budgets appropriately. The other interest of this program is providing six fellowship experiences in areas of specialization. My passion for studying this subject has grown due to the scarcity of specialists and experts in my country. I have researched the faculty of your program to find matches with my interests. I am interested in working with Dr. Linda L. Norton, or with Dr. Veronica T. Bandy, because of their research interests and both of them have experience in teaching Nonprescription therapy and self-care courses, which is the same topic of my graduation project. Also, I am interested in working with Dr. Yvonne Mai, because she has a degree in Pharmacoeconomics, Health Care Outcomes and Clinical Services Fellowship, which is the same as my specialized program. I have looked at all the faculty backgrounds and interests, and Dr. Mai is the only one who has this degree. I believe we can collaborate to take health care and clinical services to a new level in my country due to our same interest field and passions. After I obtain a masterââ¬â¢s degree, I will return home to work in one of Saudi Arabiaââ¬â¢s Health Ministry Hospitals as a part of my full scholarship agreement. After that, I plan to continue my journey in higher education to transfer my passion to young pharmacy students to improve the health outcomes and pharmacy practice in Saudi Arabia. Rats, almost single handedly, killed off about a third of the European population throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. Its effects on western civilization still lasts today, but for the people who lived during the plagues wish indeed that they did not. Society was depressed, the economy was struggling, food was scarce, and all of Europe was in battle. Who would want to live in these dramatic conditions? No one, and not for centuries to come. à à à à à The Plague, also known as the Black Death, or the Bubonic Plague, which struck in 1346, and again in 1361-62, ravaged all of Europe to the extent of bringing gruesome death to millions people of the Middle Ages. It was a combination of bubonic, septicemia, and pneumonic plague strains that started in the east and worked itââ¬â¢s way west, but never left its native home. One of the things that made the plague one of the worst was that there were outbreaks almost every ten years but still restricted to Europe. It is thought that one third to one half of the population in Europe could have possibly died due to the plague with some towns of a death rate of up to 30 or 40 percent. Very few that were infected with the plague actually survived more than one month after receiving the disease. The Black Death was an incredible event that effected everyone on a physical level, emotional level, or both. The Black Death was more terrible, and killed more people than any war in history. The plague was so horrible and terrifying that people said it made all other disasters in the Middle Ages seem like a walk in the park when compared it to the Black Death. à à à à à The infested rat, called the black ship rat, was carried in the baggage of merchants on board ships traveling all over the Mediterranean. They didn't know it, but It was the people that actually spread the disease across the land. The plague spread in a great arc across Europe, starting in the east in the Mediterranean Sea, and ending up in Germany. It is incredible that the plague hit Europe several times, but still no one understood neither the causes nor the treatments of the epidemic. à à à à à Although the Black Death was one of the largest epidemics ever recorded, it did not have many visible symptoms. The actual symptoms varied i... ...e seen along with the cathedrals started in the 12th and 13th centuries and never finished because of the plague. à à à à à The effects on the future were not as bad as the effects the 14th century people experienced. After the plague had set in on Europe and took its toll the people began to stop writing and in turn stop reading. The citizens became illiterate and showed no real interest in the arts. The European population steadily declined after 1350 for the next century. In 1351, it was calculated that the total number of dead in Europe was approximately twenty-four million people. That is a great decrease considering that there was an estimated seventy-five million people living in Europe before the Black Death struck. à à à à à The Plague certainly had one of the greatest effects on the world in all areas, and was also one of the greatest displays of human suffering ever. The Plague caused the people of western civilization to lose family, food, society, and basic fundamentals of living. It seems that bad or depressing situations give us a grasp on what is really important in our daily lives, and that is what we all need.
